Senses in Science!

We have had an amazing time in science exploring and using our senses! We have labelled human body parts. The children have been discussing our five senses: touch, sight, smell, taste and hearing. Year 1 had a fantastic time using their senses to explore during our science lessons.

We have enjoyed a range of activities to investigate our senses.

Hear - listening to the different sounds that we could hear around our classroom.

Smell – smelling garlic, herbs, lemons, onions, washing powder, coffee.

Taste – chocolate, lemons, pickles, sweets, cheese, oranges.

Touch – using feely bags to feel and describe different objects – slime, cotton wool, shaving foam, jelly, spiky ball, bricks.

We all had a really great time. Then we went on a sensory walk around our school to explore what we could see, hear, smell and touch. We talked about how we can feel and touch things with both our hands and feet. We explored our sense of touch outside by finding things that felt different. We found objects that felt rough, bumpy, smooth, spiky, hard, soft and many more.

Dolcie “I can hear the children talking”

Matei “I can see the leaves on the trees”

Neth “I can feel the bumpy floor”

Abigail “I can smell the flowers”

Year 2

We read the story of Creation (Genesis 1) and then spent time in our prayer garden to reflect and give thanks to God for the wonderful gift of our world.

We talked about the ways in which we can be ‘Stewards of Creation’, helping to protect and look after the world for future children to enjoy.

In Science we have been exploring different ways to keep our bodies healthy. We had such fun experimenting to discover how germs spread and how to prevent them.
