Online Safety
We live in a digital world. Most activities can be done on a phone, an iPad or computer. It is up to us to keep our children safe when going online. At St Joseph’s we teach children about how to stay safe online, including asking a grown up if they are unsure of the content they are looking at, not sharing personal information online and to only engage in activities that are within their age range. This is taught in Nursery up to year 6 as it is important for all children.
Parents at home can ensure they have parental locks and settings to ensure their children are only seeing appropriate aged content. In school, we have a filter so that our internet is safe for our children to browse and use during class. As adults, it is our responsibility to make sure that our children only have access to age-appropriate content. If you let your child access content that is too old for them, you put them at risk of seeing something that they should not see. At home, you can talk to your children about what to do if they access something they shouldn’t and the answer is to always get a grown up if they are unsure.
